GYMKHANA 11: Subaru STi video star reaffirms its AWD heritage
Just when we thought Subaru had lost its marbles with that front-wheel drive Impreza STi, comes this. Rejoice! Meet the 400kW four-tyre-burning WRX STi ready for wild man Travis Pastrana to punish in the long overdue latest Gymkhana video remake.
Fans will remember Ken Block thrashing a similar STi in the original flick back in 2008. Before he fled to Ford. Now Gymkhana is ready to return to its roots — with Subaru once again an official supplier.
THE WILDEST SUBARU STI OF ALL TIME
Subaru USA and Vermont SportsCar collaborated to build this ‘wildest STi of all time’ especially for Gymkhana 11. Well, the contraption does conform to the street STi’s silhouette. In reality it’s a full carbon Tupperware shell wrapped around a spaceframe filled with that monster boxer four and Subaru all-wheel drive.
Developed in the wind tunnel, believe it or nort Subaru promises it’s the best developed Gymkhana car yet. A staggered twin exhaust pokes up through the bonnet and the chassis has particularly long suspension travel for those Gymkhana jumps.
Former US Supercross champion and extreme motocross star Pastrana can’t wait for his Gymkhana debut. Can you blame him with this new company car? “I wanna to raise the bar.” Somehow we believe him! Bring it on.
