Quandt to set up independent team to run groundbreaking Dakar Q Audis from 2022
Audi has teamed up with startup team Q Motorsport for its recently announced Dakar Rally attack.
BMW scion Sven Quandt will run Q Motorsportalongside but independent of his existing X-rald Minis. Q will develop and run Audi’s innovative new Dakar prototype from the 2022 Dakar.

The new team was founded by Sven Quandt and his two sons Thomas and Tobias. Sven Quandt won the T1 Marathon Cup in 1998. When his GECO Raid team ended 1-2-3 in T1 in the Paris–Dakar. From there, Quandt was the head of motorsport at Mitsubishi Motors,. He established the X-raid Team, which since won five Dakars and won eleven FIA World Cup for cross-country rallies.
“With Q Motorsport, we want to break new ground in cross-country motorsport independently of and parallel to X-raid,” Quandt explained. “The world is changing and the Dakar must also prove that it can be sustainable and continue to point the way forward. This is exactly what Q Motorsport wants to demonstrate together with Audi.”
