MORE FOR LESS GRAND i10 KEEPS SURPRISING

Hyundai’s all-new best seller Grand i10 strives to do the job even better

For whatever reason, we have always pretty liked The Hyundai Grand i10. We called the old one ‘the more for less little Hyundai’. That car surprised us. Look, it never promised much – bigger than a regular i10 and not quite an i20, what struck us is that Grand was never a compromise.

Yet it proved a pleasing place to drive, delivered better than expected performance and the test units we had, both grew on us. Grand i10 did what its rivals promised, without the pretence. But it delivered more – for less. So we were never surprised that Grand i10 is Hyundai’s biggest seller in South Africa.

ROLL THOSE DRUMS. LIGHTLY

Now there’s a new Hyundai Grand i10 that’s arrived to the tune of a light drum roll. They tell us it gets an extra dash of style, flair, roominess and even more features. And road manners that belie its compact size. There’s a bold new grille to headline its new, even bigger look and feel, daytime; LED headlamps and body-coloured bumpers and door handles too.

Most importantly, Grand i10 has not forgotten its core strengths of fuel economy and price in this super-sensitive neck of the woods. “This car has a very important role to play,” Hyundai suit Stanley Anderson explains. “The new Hyundai Grand i10 delivers the experience of a bigger car despite its compact dimensions.”

To that end, the Hyundai Grand i10 boasts a surprising feature list for a car of its price and size. It comes in the choice of white, black, silver, grey and red colours and is available in basic Motion or upgrade Fluid specification levels.

Motion models get a black grille and 14-inch steel wheels with caps. All new Grand i10s come with a standard 6.2-inch touch screen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto mobile mirroring, Bluetooth and dual USB ports. Add air conditioning with air vents for rear passengers too.

CHROME TRIM MEANS HIGHER GRAND I10 FLUID SPEC

Fluid versions have chrome finish grille and daytime running LED corner lights.1-litre Fluid models also gain alloy wheels, while the 1.2-litre flagship Fluid steps up to exclusive sporty 15-inch alloys. Fluid models can also be ordered with an optional two tone colour scheme. That means a black roof on a white or red body.

Motion models and the base model Fluid Grand i10s are powered by a 49 kW 94 Nm 5.4 l/100km 998 cc 3-cylinder petrol engine. The flagship Fluids get a more powerful 61 kW 114 Nm 5.9 l/100km 1.2-litre four-pot petrol. Both engines drive the front wheels. They come in the choice of a 5-speed manual or an easy shifting but slightly less economical 4-speed automatic gearboxes.

Grand gets MacPherson strut front and torsion beam rear suspension and dependable ABS anti skid EBD brakes. Safety extends to bolstered front seats that are height adjustable on the driver’s side. Add driver and front passenger airbags with pretensioner front seat belts, ISOFIX child seat attachments on the folding three-passenger rear bench with enhanced thigh support.

Grand i10 carries Hyundai’s market-leading 7-year/200 000 km warranty and a 1-year/15 000 km service plan with 5-years/150 000 km roadside assistance.
