Tuning company Posaidon promises up to beyond 750 kW for the big Mercedes Coupé
Horsepower freaks pay attention — specialist Mercedes-AMG tuners Posaidon has rolled out a series of kits for the S 63 4Matic + Coupé to push the biturbo V8 as far as the other side of a thousand horsepower via four stages of tuning.
LET’S START WITH 656 KW AND 1199 NM
The basic R550K Posaidon S 63 gains high-performance ball bearing turbochargers, a sports air filter and tuned exhaust downpipes with sport catalysts. Add adapted transmission and drive train control units to deliver a feisty 656 kW and 1199 Nm. According to Posaidon, that propels the 2.2-ton coupé to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds. Fitted with the appropriate speed-rated tires, the Posaidon S will top350 km/h and comes with full type approval in Germany.
Posaidon will relieve you of R950K (yes, over and above the car) to squeeze another tenth of a second out of that 0-100 time with stage two conversion. That entails a little extra work to the AMG lump’s cylinder head ports and some valve seat tricks, while the tuner adds a water-methanol injection system along with an additional tank, if required. That sees the S 63’s biturbo V8 to 700 kW hp and 1280 Nm.
Enough already? Not for Posaidon it seems. The company has already confirmed a 740 kW (1000 horse) version and it tells us that we should watch this space for details. We wait for that one with bated breath…
BUT WAIT – THERE’S ONE THAT MAKES SENSE TOO
If half a million or a bar for a car conversion seems a touch too rich for you, we have good news for you. Posaidon also offers a 522 kW 949 Nm software-only tuning kit for the four-litre V8 biturbo at just R75K. That will see your AMG S 63 4Matic Coupé to 100 km/h in in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h. Now that seems a proper value for money option.
Posaidon offers its tuning packages for all M177 biturbo V8 powered AMGs, as well as the GT models’ M178 V8.
