BMW M boss reveals the Hockenheimring record busting CS will have 475 kW
BMWs facelifted M5 will be one of the first new car launches in South Africa in 2021. But there’s something special worth waiting for over and above the new M5 and its Competition version too…
M5 CS IS ALREADY BREAKING RECORDS
The AWD F90 has sold better than its F10 predecessor. Munich expects this M5 CS should keep the customers coming through those dealership doors. And if German magazine sport auto whisking a still camouflaged CS around the Hockenheim Grand Prix six-tenths faster than they managed to hussle an M5 Competition around there in, (see video below), it may well be worth waiting for one of these…
CS will get all those new M5 tweaks along with special colour coding and the headlights and get GT3 racer-like yellow lenses with a black border. Expect profiled front and rear spoilers, aero tabs like the M8 Gran Coupé’s and a generous rear diffuser too.
475 KW 4.4-LITRE BITURBO V8 POWEr
But what about the real news? Well BMW M boss and soon to be new BMW Motorsport capo Markus Flasch has now let it slip that the 4.4-liter biturbo V8 will develop 475 kW in thew CS versus the Competition’s 465 KW at an equal 750 Newton meters.
CS retains the eight-speed automatic and all wheel drive, which get a revised, spotier electronic control profiles. AWD can now be decoupled at the touch of a button. The active M limited-slip differential on the rear axle should be more ambitious. And the M8’s Track Mode will be included. Flasch also confirms that CS loses 72 kilograms, probably more than your wife weighs.
Expect 20-inch Pirelli P Zero Corsa 275/35 front and 285/35 rear tyres on flashy gold-bronze forged aluminum rims, It is thought that carbon-ceramic brakes may be standard too.
AND CS HAS A PARTY TRICK INSIDE, TOO!
The hot M5 will also get all the facelifted 5 Series cabin enhancements including a larger info display. And the M8’s new M-interface with new set of buttons that can to directly influence driving behavior. CS will have a party trick inside too. A pair of two-tone bucket seats with a Nürburgring logo on the headrests. Set for imminent reveal, expect to pay around R300K premium for a CS when it gets to SA.
