NEW HYUNDAI I30N revealed – it’s now more powerful, gets 8-speed double clutch too
Hyundai’s new look hight performance i30N may well up output to 210kW, but that’s not the swift new Korean’s real party trick. Nope, the new car’s trump card is rather its all-new dual clutch transmission.
0-100 in 5.9 seconds
The new performance N flagship picks up on the freshly revised i30. Now good for 100km/h in 5.9 seconds, the two-litre turbo petrol four-pot gains 3kW. It however benefits a significant gain in grunt from 353 to 392Nm.
The optional flappy paddle eight-cog ‘box comes with an electronic locking differential and launch control. It packs three fine-tuneable power modes. Aggressive NGS (for N Grin Shift!) comes with a 7% overboost. N Power Shift has more dynamic shifting and there’s N Track Shift too.
more aggressive styling
The new N also benefits more aggressive styling to the regular i30s. That snarling grille and striking LED daytime running headlights, and LED taillights set it apart. Add a robust rear diffuser integrating a pair of large exhaust tailpipes.
New 14.4kg lighter forged 19-inch alloys further reduce unsprung mass and wrap around red lacquered brake callipers clamping bigger diameter 360mm front discs.
There are also new cabin materials inside, a modified dash and an updated, larger infotainment screen. Those splendid leather and Alcantara sports seats lose another 2.2kg apiece and like the steering wheel, they can now be heated. The seat belts get blue accents.
We await response from Hyundai SA’s plans for the newcomer.
