DAKAR 2021: Check out Sebastian Loeb and Nani Roma’s new BRX Dakar ride
It seems South Africa’s Gazoo Racing Toyota Hiluxes and that quick Jozi-built Century Corvette will have more than just Carlos Sainz and Stephane Peterhansel’s Minis to worry about at Dakar 2021. New Dakar team Bahrain Raid Xtreme team is gearing up to take on the regulars. It’s crack drivers Sebastien Loeb and Nani Roma have already completed first tests of the brand new Prodrive-built challenger.
300kW Biturbo V6 4×4 BRX will be SET for battle
Loeb and Roma took the wheel shortly after being confirmed as the team’s wheel men. The all-new 300kW biturbo petrol V6 four-wheel drive BRX T1 will make its Dakar debut in January . Loeb and Roma completed almost 2000km at the Millbrook, England proving ground. That’s about four stages of the Dakar.
“I could immediately feel that the car had good balance and plenty of power,” Loeb reported. “Even in the wet and very low grip conditions, it was easy to control. With more testing I think we can develop its potential. “Now I look forward to getting out to the Middle East in November to begin testing in the sand.”
Double Dakar bike winner Roma added: “For me everything was positive: the brakes, the steering, the engine, the suspension. There is still a lot to do, but this is normal with such a new car. But I did my best to try and break it, and I failed!”
The Prodrive-run team will continue its Dakar preparations in real desert conditions in the Middle East. The team is also considering racing in one of two Saudi Arabian Baja curtain raisers in December.
