VOLKSWAGEN’S T6.1 range benefits a neat facelift
Volkswagen has launched its tweaked T6.1 Caravelle and Transporter range in South Africa. They get a raft of styling changes highlighted by a larger new grille and LED daytime running headlights. 0.25-inch digital gauges, a larger goodie tray with inductive smartphone interface and improved ventilation are new cabin highlights
Under the skin improvements include electro-mechanical steering and optional second-generation chassis control. Driver aids include Park and Lane Assist, ESC, Post-Collision Braking and speed limiter cruise control,. AWD models get Hill Start and Descent. Add optional Trailer Assist and main-beam Light Assist.
T6.1 has A BROAD AND MULTIFACETED LINEUP
Models include long wheelbase single or double cab Pick Ups with a 5.7 m2 dropside load bed. The 6.7m³ load bay Panel Van has optional twin sliding doors. The Crew Bus has single front passenger and removable third row seating. The Kombi, comes in Trendline or Trendline Plus and with new seatback pockets for gadget space.
The Caravelle has Nappa leather seats and a centre table, 10.25-inch touch screen infotainment. Add Crosswind, Side and Trailer Assistants with 17-inch alloy wheels. Options include a cooler box and Adaptive Chassis Control. The California Coast camper benefits enhanced living and sleeping areas.
T6.1 comes in three economical common rail injection 2-litre TDI turbodiesels. Panel Van Crew Bus and Kombi models come with all three 81 kW 250 Nm, 110kW 340 Nm and handy biturbo 146 kW 450 Nm trim with a 7-speed DSG auto. Caravelle and Crew bus get 146kW treatment. Pricing ranges from R412K in the 81kW Single Cab to R1.2-million for the AWD DSG California Coast.
