AUTO SCOOP! – Nissan SA’s next big thing is taking shape
Our spies tell us that this it’s the next Nissan Navara hiding under this test mule’s disguise.
Part of a significant restructure at Nissan, this bakkie will no longer be built in Europe as part of Nissan’s plans to considerably streamline its global product portfolio, with Navara already confirmed for production at Nissan SA’s Rosslyn plant, likely alongside production in Thailand.
Nissan will now split its pickup focus between Eastern markets US, where this Navara will look after customers’ more diesel-oriented midsized bakkie needs, while a new Frontier is likely to serve the US market’s specific larger vehicle and petrol-powered needs.
It is expected that two new one-tonners, likely a full-size US market Titan and the Navara-sized Frontier pickup, will replace the current, ageing Frontier also known as the previous Hardbody (the one between the even older Hardbody still sold here and the current D23 Navara) in the US market.
What all that means to Nissan’s SA plans around its much-criticized zero-star NCAP Hardbody, remains unclear
