Second generation BRZ arrives. But is a powerhouse STi likely joining it this time?
Subaru has trotted out its second generation BRZ coupe. Set to go on sale in US late in 2021, the slightly longer, slightly lower this one doesn’t look set for South Africa, UK neither, with its future not confirmed in either market.
BRZ 2 – MORE POWER, PERFECT BALANCE
Powered by a revised 2.4-litre naturally aspirated boxer four, the new BRZ makes 170KW, up 23KW from last model and 250Nm, up 15% too. 27 kg heavier than before, it weighs in at 1315kg, but Fuji promises ‘near perfect weight distribution’.
Well specced, the new one gains a large 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with all the bells and whistles. And two trim levels are available, premium and limited.
Some Subaru fans have expressed concerns on the slightly less exciting than expected look. The front looks a lot better than the rear, but is this done on purpose? To open the door for a future, wilder BRZ STI. Should that speculation bear out, this certainly will be a great foundation for that.
