REVEALED – Dacia Duster half-ton bakkie would do Renault proud in SA
The bakkie in the pictures may have a Dacia badge, but ignore that for a second. The Duster is already an accepted model in SA in it’s Renault-badged SUV get-up. But here’s something that’s really needed in this market. A half-ton bakkie version.
THIS BAKKIE’S RIVAL WOULD BE ANOTHER DACIA
Now there’s only one rival in the SA market and it just happens to be another Dacia. Yip, the Nissan NP200 is actually a re-badged Dacia Logan. Which means the Romansch Renault-Nissan partner brand could now keep control of he local half-tonner and still sell two different models as rivals. One with a Renault badge. The other that Nissan…
We have to say that this Dacia looks quite the part as a bakkie and the conversion seems pretty cool at the first gander. It has a faux plastic rollover bar integrated to the back of t he cab and this one has a robust plastic-lined loadbay too. It’s 4.34 meters long, with a 1.65 meter bay rated to carry 500 kilograms and swallow a thousand litre load. Powered by an 85 kW turbodiesel, it comes in all-wheel drive too.
Somehow we think this one’s a no brainer for SA. Theres a huge slice a woefully under-supplied market that this Renault bakkie would walk straight into in a hungry niche that’s just begging for a new contender. But then what do we know…?
