Now you can have your Nine Eleven as a sport ute too!
Porsche has shown the production-ready version of its new cross country 911 Dakar at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Promised to be just as comfortable off-road as it is on, only 2,500 examples will be built.
Said to demonstrate the limitless possibilities of the Porsche 911 concept, the new Dakar also salutes Porsche’s first 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally with the first-ever all-wheel drive Porsche 911. The new car comes with an optional Rallye Design Package reminiscent of that iconic Dakar winner.
Up to 80 Millimetres More Clearance
The new Porsche 911 Dakar has a 50 mm taller ground clearance. Its standard lift system can raise a further 30 mm to rival a conventional SUVs. The ‘high level’ setting allows for ambitious off-road work at up to 170 km/h. beyond which the car automatically lowers back down to its normal level.
The Porsche 911 Dakar is shod with split 245/45 ZR 19 front and 295/40 ZR 20 rear Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tyres. They get two carcass plies, a chunky 9 mm deep tread pattern and reinforced sidewalls. Highly cut-resistant, these tyres are ideal even for the most challenging of terrain. Twin-ply Pirelli P Zero summer and winter tyres come as an option,
Powered by a 353 kW 570 Nm three-litre biturbo boxer six, 911 Dakar despatches 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and tops 240 km/h, limited by its all-terrain tyres. And eight-speed PDK transmission is standard, as is, as you would expect, and Porsche all-wheel drive.
911 Dakar As Dynamic on Dirt as on Nürburgring
Other standard bits include rear-axle steering, 911 GT3 engine mounts, and PDCC anti-roll stabilisation. Porsche promises 911 Dakar will be just as dynamic on the dirt as it is around the Nürburgring. That also thanks to Rallye and offroad mode selectable via a steering wheel mounted switch.
The 911 Dakar has a new fixed lightweight rear spoiler. And a GT3-like CFRP front compartment. Add red aluminium towing lugs, widened wheel wells and sills and the stainless steel protectors. Stainless steel side air grilles protect against flying rocks.
The roof features a visible 12-volt power outlet for the headlights of the optional roof basket or tent. The basket can accommodate fuel and water cans, folding shovels and traction boards.
Cool Cabin Trim for 911 Dakar Too
Shade Green Race-Tex cabin surfaces get decorative stitching. The car loses its rear seats and gains lightweight glass and a lightweight battery to keep it just 10 kg heavier than a Carrera 4 GTS with PDK.
The Rallye Design Package comes with any race number form 0 and 999 to go with the red and gold rally stripes and Rothmans-like ‘Roughroads’ logos saluting that 1984 Paris-Dakar winner on the doors. Add white rims and the red taillight strip, and interior trim accents in
Owners can also order a Porsche Design 911 Dakar watch to go with their car. It debuts at the 2022 Dubai Design District Icons of Porsche festival 26-27. It can be ordered now via your local Porsche Centre.
