Cross A/S tyre range ready for fast roads, tough trails

With crossover and sport utility vehicles flooding the market, the South African soft roader niche is rapidly growing fast. To that end, General Tire has launched its versatile and capable new Grabber Cross A/S all-season tyre to combine safe and competent street driving with confidence-inspiring gravel and off-road ability.

Introduced to satisfy increasingly popular 80-percent on and 20 percent off-road ‘soft road’ driving applications, General Grabber Cross A/S tyres combine a stiff tread and a cut and chip resistant rubber compound for sure-footed grip, driver confidence and puncture resistance in gravel and off-road conditions.

Yet there’s no compromise when it comes to on-road driving. The Grabber Cross A/S delivers outstanding grip, aquaplaning resistance and wet braking performance on tar roads thanks integrated support elements between the blocks to make the tread extra stiff and ensure safest performance.

Grabbing that grip on any surface

V-rated to speeds of up to 240 km/h, General Grabber Cross A/S tyres are designed using a cut and chip resistant crossover compound and thicker Duragen steel belts. To ensure stability and even pressure distribution for precise steering and the ability to drive longer distances at higher speeds without compromising tyre endurance.

Biting edge hexagonal tread blocks add traction on loose surfaces, robust block sipes ensure wet road grip and an open tread shoulder accelerates water evacuation to prevent aquaplaning. A Comfort Balance acoustic tread patten reduces rolling noise for a remarkably quiet, most comfortable and enjoyable driving experience.

New C or D EU classified and electric vehicle compatible Cross A/S tyres join General’s extensive Grabber range in 32 sizes between 16 and 22 inches. They sit between the road-oriented Grabber GT Plus and all-terrain AT3 on the range, and below the all-terrain Grabber AT and extreme Grabber X3s.

More South Africans are buying crossover cars

"South African motorists are rapidly moving toward crossover and sport utility vehicles that offer versatility for both everyday driving and weekend adventures,” Continental Tyre SA Market Manager Dustine Gascoyne explains. “The General Grabber Cross A/S  is specifically developed to combine the comfort and performance that drivers expect on the road, with the durability and traction needed when venturing off the beaten track.”

“We are also proud to produce new General Grabber Cross A/S range locally," Gascoyne concludes. Several sizes of the new Grabber Cross A/S range are already produced at the Continental Tyre South Africa plant in Gqeberha, which has been a key part of the Nelson Mandela Bay automotive industry in the since 1947. More locally produced sizes will be introduced shortly.
