NEW HYUNDAI TUCSON a fundamental departure on many levels
Hyundai has revealed its radical-looking all-new Tucson. It gets cool new styling, 48 volt electrics, and intelligent transmission and new assistants.
The car is dominated by a diamond-cut grille, which only reveals the hidden LED headlamps when they turn on.
New Tucson features bulging and protruding ‘light edged’ surfaces. Sickle-shaped tail lights, a clean window with an embedded logo and wipers hidden in the roof spoiler are rear-end highlights.
TUCSON materials and workmanship appear solid
Inside the roomier cabin, there’s digital instrumentation on a flat dash and a large 10.25-inch centre display above the climate controls. Capacitive touch fields under a common surface replace dash buttons. Fine materials and workmanship appear solid. A 40:20:40 split rear seat brings versatility to a larger boot with a power tailgate.
Available in front or all-wheel drive, new Tucson comes in diesel or petrol, with or without 48-volt hybridisation. A new 110 or 135kW duration variable valve control CVVD Smartstream 1.6 T-GDI turbo petrol delivers up to 170kW and 350Nm system output in full hybrid form. A plug-in hybrid will follow.
Tucson features Hyundai’s adaptive dampers. A Highway Driving Assist maintains distance to the vehicle ahead in conjunction with navigation-based Smart Cruise Control Curve. There’s a Remote Smart Parking Assist too.
Tucson will come in three equipment variants. There are nine colours with two-tone options. Wheels are between 17 and 19 inches depending on the model. The new Hyundai Tucson should get to SA early next year.
