Sublime New Maybach S Class Pushes Luxury and Technology to New Levels

When Maybach developed its new S-Class unveiled Thursday, it set out to ‘make the best car in world better again’. The pinnacle of Mercedes Benz class, style and technology is designed to push motoring boundaries, surpass expectations and excite most demanding customers. Mercedes promises that the new Maybach S perfects the finest details to deliver a state of great comfort and ease.

They say that driving, or being driven in the new Maybach S, is an unparalleled experience. And that it delivers the outstanding

“For any prestigious brand to remain desirable over time it needs to observe certain disciplines,” Richemont luxury brands boss Johann Rupert elaborated. “It must remain true to its core values and its DNA. Coco Chanel said that style stays; fashion goes. Truly sophisticated luxury in this modern world requires engineering, technology and a touch of the human soul. I am really looking forward to the new S Class Maybach.”

“The perception luxury requires continuous progress and constant change and an acute understanding of current culture, to understand the past,” Louis Vuitton designer Virgil Abloh added. “A trip from A to B becomes an experience with well-designed things. So, driving in a Maybach leaves aa great impact.”

MAYBACH LOOKS DIFFERENT TO MERCEDES S

A unique badge and grille set Maybach apart. Revolutionary Digital Light headlamps are optional. The flagship also differs from its S brethren viewed from the side. Longer rear doors and a quarter window and an illuminated Maybach logo on the C-pillar. The rear doors safely power open from the driver’s seat or the key fob. And close by gesture. A hand painted two-tone finish is optional.

Maybach is designed to be chauffeur driven. It rides on an 18 cm longer wheelbase than the long Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Its trump card is an extensively upgraded first-class rear cabin.

Second-generation engine electrification features an integrated starter-generator now incorporated into the Maybach’s 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. It boosts up to 15 kW and 250Nm to facilitate efficient gliding when driving at constant driving speeds and enhance the start-stop.

The all-wheel drive Maybach S has continuously adjustably damped Airmatic air suspension with Dynamic Select featuring a dedicated Maybach mode entirely focused on ride comfort. Optional fully active 48-volt E-Active Body Control suspension uses a stereo camera to scan the road ahead. And smooths out undulations. And new active road noise compensation and extended NVH measures make for a truly silky and silent drive.

OCCUPANTS WILL REVEL IN MAYBACH’S SUPREME COMFORT

That allows its occupants to revel in Maybach’s bass speaker Burmeister 4D surround sound system while traveling in supreme comfort. The rear cockpit has two independent adjustable surface executive seats with extending leg rests to deliver a continuous reclining surface. The heated fully power adjustable massaging rear pews also get neck and shoulder heating. And calf rest massaging

Learn-capable second-generation MBUX Interior Assist recognises passenger eye-direction, hand gestures and the body language to assist with automatic vehicle functions as the situation requires. Adaptive rear lighting and rosé gold white and amethyst glow mood lighting add ambiance after dark.

Particular attention is paid to rear passenger safety. An innovative rear airbag for instance considerably reduces loads acting on occupants’ heads in the event of a collision.

A new definition of luxury, the interior of the new generation Mercedes S-based Maybach front cockpit features high quality wood encased front lounge seats with large areas of hide trim. The sculptured dashboard incorporates a 12.3-inch 3D rosé gold driver display, a stylised centre console and armrests. It’s backed up by a large high-tech 12.8-inch OLED central control screen and up to five display optimal displays.

IT EVEN TAKES OVER DRIVING ON SUITABLE MOTORWAYS

An extended assistance system meanwhile adapts vehicle speed, following distance, steering and lane changing. It even offers to take over driving on suitable high density traffic motorway sections.

Mercedes’ ‘king of designers’ Wilhelm Maybach introduced his first five metre Model 12 in 1921. The Maybach Model 12 Zeppelin was the first German V12 production car and served kings and emperors across the globe. Maybach came back as a 6.17 metre 62 limousine in 2012 and the previous 222-series S-Class followed in 2015.

Far from a rich man’s gimmick, more than 60,000 previous generation Mercedes-Maybach S-Classes were delivered around the world. Up to 700 of those went to China every month. The new S Class will join the Maybach GLS in showrooms next spring. An all new battery electric EQS Maybach electric car is on its way too, to allow the brand to double production to 25,000 cars a year.
