So what does Dakar Day 4 hold in store? Is Toby Price dreading the bike start, can Nasser haul Peterhansel in? And can rookie Henk Lategan go one better and win his fourth ever Dakar stage? All will be revealed on the 337 km of racing from from Wadi Ad-Dawasir to Riyadh. Said to be even on a technically less challenging and a simpler to navigate, the action commenced a bit later than usual after a long open section to the start with the full 813-km route being the longest of the race.

12h55 Cars: Nasser has moved back ahead with 60 km to race – he led Henk by 34 seconds at WP5 with Peterhansel within 20 second behind…
12h40 Cars: Meanwhile in the cars, Henk Lategan had moved into the lead and opened the gao to 22 seconds over Gazoo Toyota Hilux teammate Nasser Al attiyah and Stephane Peterhansel a minute behind. Local hero Yazeed Seaidan meanwhile sat a fantastic fourth in the SA-built Century with Sebastien Loeb and Carlos Sainz next up. Yazeed Al Rajhi’s Hilux was in trouble behind with Mattieu Serradori lost 20 minutes in his Century and Bernhard Ten Brinke did not start after yesterday’s crash.
12h30 Bikes: Spaniard Joan Barreda has won the day’s bike stage for Honda by a significant six minutes over Botswana Yamaha hero Ross Branch. Aussie Daiel Sanders was third for KTM ahead of Husqvarna riders Luciano Benavides and Marquis Xavier de Soultrait and Portuguese Hero rider Joaquim de Oliveira. His win has moved Barreda up to second int he overall standings, just 15 seconds behind Soultrait and three minutes clear of Honda teammate, second Benavides brother Kevin. Multiple South African champion Branch is now up to fourth, another minute adrift with Luciano Benavides and KTM men Skyler Howes, Sam Sunderland and Toby Price next up. The tio 12 bikes remain separated by just ten minutes.
11h50 Cars: Saiz could not match the Toyotas through WP2 – he was 20 seconds off Nasser and Henk at that point
11h30 Cars: Nasser and Henk were within a second at WP3 with Peterhansel 53 seconds adrift. Meanwhile at WP1, Sainz has gone quickest by 6 seconds and Baragwanath sixth behind Attiyah, Lategan, Seaidan and Peter.
11h20 Cars: Nasser Al Attiyah and Henk Lategan were split by 3 seconds at the top of the leaderboard at the 80 km WP2 with Peterhansel, Loeb and Seadian all within a minute in pursuit. Several quicker cars are still to pass through though, so watch this space.
11h10 Bikes: We have timing back and can report that Barreda led Branch, Quintanilla, Flormino, Sanders and Flormino at the 172 km WP4. The field spread means that the first bikes on the road are nearing the finish…
11h00 Cars: The cars are in the stage with Nasser and Henk up front on the map. Bear with us as we wait for the timing system – it’s fallen over. and is which is now three waypoints behind. Not bad considering we got to stage 4 before the first glitch, but it leaves is in the dark…
10h45 Bikes: There remains an advantage for the riders running further back versus those opening the road today, but it was a mere fraction of the difference it was yesterday to start. That said among yesterday’s leaders have now erred further into the stage as the front four lost time in the second and third sectors. First on the road Price has slipped four minutes, while Walkner, Howes and Benavides each lost ten minutes, the former pair in sector 3 and the latter in the second section.
10h30 Bikes: We have a real race in the bikes at last today as Joan Barreda’s Honda, Ross Branch on the leading Yamaha and Pablo Quintanilla fight it out on top of the time sheers with Sanders, Rodrigues, Benavides, Svitko and Quintanilla snapping at their heels. Best of all? The top twelve ars covered by under two minutes…
09h00 Bikes: Now that’s more like it! The first ten bikes are through WP1 and all ten are within a minute. Let’s hope that’s the back of that WP1 nightmare that has so compromised Dakar 2021’s bike leaders over the first three days… The order was Walkner lading Price and Howes, but now with Sanders fourth in a KTM 1-2-3 and Soultrait ahead of Benavides.
