WOULD YOU DROP 90 MILLION ON A PLYMOUTH?

This Super-rare Hemi Cuda Convertible is Expected to Fetch Six Million Dollars

Auction House Mecum Estimates a Six Million Dollar Sale for this One of a Kind Hemi Cuda

Here’s one that’s about to reset the Mopar record books… Mecum recons this super-rare ’71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible will fetch around six-million dollars when it comes under the gavel at the auction house’s Indianapolis Indiana State Fairgrounds next week. Six million dollars? Yip — six million dollars. Make that 90 million rand!

a Plymouth worth Ferrari money?

So, what makes this albeit most desirable Plymouth worth Ferrari money? Well, it’s one of the last of any real muscle cars ever to roll off the production line for starters. Within days of it being shipped, the ravages of the fuel crisis set in, to which knee-jerk culled everything from muscle cars to motor racing.

Then this was also one of only twelve ’71 Hemi Cuda Convertibles built. Even better, it’s one of just three stick-shift manuals ever made, it’s still original and it’s driven less than 60,000 miles.

A Little Unexpected French Flair

Also, the only of the twelve original ’71 Hemi Cuda Convertibles built in Winchester gray; this car has an unusual history. It was actually shipped to a French customer, rather than the perhaps expected California or Texas petrol head. One of five Hemi Cudas ever to head for Europe. That’s why it has a unique 240 km/h speedo and a kilometer odometer, rather than one that counts the miles. All subtle nuances that collectors crave for. And which make it super rare. And super-expensive

Packing an original matching numbers drivetrain, it’s powered by Mopar’s epic 431 hp 426 cube Hemi V8 turning that unique wooden pistol grip Hurst shifter-equipped A833 4-speed manual transmission and a 3.54:1 ratio Dana 60 Sure Grip differential. That driveline combination was known as the A33-Track Pak back in ’71. And all components are this car’s original documented matching number items.

A Shaker hood. power everything too

The Hemi also has a Shaker hood with its inlet poking through the hood; a high-density 26-inch seven-blade cooling fan with and comes with a Mopar chassis pack. The car is equipped with power steering and power brakes, as well as power windows, power adjustable seats and an optional right-hand wing mirror. The original owner failed to specify a radio!

A rare color combination, this Hemi Cuda’s GA4 Winchester gray has black side treatment, a black soft top roof and interior and comes with period correct Goodyear Polyglas GT F60-15 premium tires. Estimated to fetch between 5.75 and 6.5 million dollars, this car comes under the hammer as lot F166 at Mecum Auctions’ Indy 2021 sale Friday May 21. Better you transfer those finds to the current account in good time…
