TIGUAN GETS A FASTBACK

QUICK NEWS – VW Tiguan X. Volkswagen chops the back off its SUV

If you think there’s something odd about this Volkswagen Tiguan, look again. There is.

The (so far) China-only Tiguan X coupé SUV is part of another Oriental VW JV, this time with the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation. Due in China in the last quarter, it’s as long as the Tiguan Allspace, but 56mm lower in height. Like Tiguan, the R-Line packed X is based on VW’s MQB platform.

Typical Tiguan up front, it’s all change at the rear, where a coupé roofline, Lamborghini-like continuous taillights, new tailpipes and a fresh apron set it apart. X gets 140 or 165kW two-litre turbo TSIs packing dual clutch transmissions and all-wheel drive with a plug-in GTE following in 2021.
How about it, VW SA?
