REVEALED – PDK auto makes 4-liter Porsche 718s faster, more frugal

PDK automatic further sharpens Porsche’s dynamic top end Boxster & Cayman

Porsche has introduced an automatic version of its 718 Boxster and Cayman GTS models. The 4-litre boxer six-cylinder 718s can now be ordered with Stuttgart’s seven-speed PDK double-clutch transmission to not just see the cars break the 4-second 0-100 km/h barrier, but deliver significantly improved better fuel consumption too.

Seamless shiFt & Launch Control

The quicker pace comes thanks to the new autobox’s launch control and seamless shifting advantages, while the seventh gear ratio is also shorter than in the manual versions. Porsche promises ‘the fastest circuit lap times, with highly efficient operation for everyday use’. To that end, fuel economy improves from the manual’s 10.5 to 9.6 l/100 in the new PDK car, while emissions drop by 17g/km to 230g/km.

The seven-speed dual-clutch auto is now available across the full 4-litre 718 range, including both the Cayman and Boxster GTS, Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder. The GTS versions benefit a half-second improvement to 60 mph time, while average fuel consumption in the GT4 and Spyder improves too and CO2 emissions drop by 8 g/km.

The GTS PDK models get a standard Sport Chrono package with four driving modes, with a brisk Sport mode, Sport Plus which includes a race start function, while Sport Response is a maximum attack mode.

Elsewhere, a verdant Python Green joins 718’s paint palette for ’21, while a highly breathable new ‘Race-Tex’ material replace the Alcantara seat trim and the 718 Spyder now gets the Cayman GT4’s 20 inch ‘Aurum’ alloys.
